Originally, in these artificial islands, the Uru ethnic group inhabited, one of the oldest pre-Inca civilizations and which is said to have had to settle on Titicaca to escape the invasion of the Inca Pachacútec, currently these islands are inhabited by Aymara , who learned the techniques of using the totora (reed that grows in Titicaca) and inherited the lifestyle, traditions and pride of people who have the courage to keep their culture alive despite the passing of the years .

Upon our arrival to the floating islands, the friendly inhabitants will welcome us and together with the professional tour guide will make a brief but very interesting presentation of the way of construction of the islands as well as the customs and the way of life that is maintained in this unique place, the well-organized inhabitants make different crafts such as embroidery and also various objects made of totora.

Thus the reed becomes the raw material for absolutely everything in this environment, houses, boats, food, medicine and even the island itself are jobs that local inhabitants do in which the main thing is the reed that they find spontaneously growing in Titicaca.
